From the beginning, Arbo Studios has been about doing something new and different. It all started in grade 10, when I created my first real project out of hardwood. A console table out of black cherry with lathed legs. In fact it still sits in my parents living room. I still remember when I brought it home, my father said and I quote “I thought we were going to have to put that in the basement.
That was my first real interaction with wood, and I love the attention to detail needed to make a beautiful piece of furniture and art.
Fast forward to the spring of 2018 where I got back into the craft. My uncle had some beautiful air dried 2.5” thick hard maple slabs in the shed at the family farm and after seeing the table he created for my cousin (his daughter) I was obsessed with the look of live edge lumber and had to make one myself.
He was kind enough to give me two slabs and let me use his shop and even helped me with the process. That is really when this whole adventure started.
I rekindled my love of woodworking and started working on some other projects. It wasn’t until I found this really cool piece of butternut with a hole at the end of it where I discovered resin and wood. Being the type of person I am, I had to try it. I purchased some resin on amazon and got right to work.
IT TURNED OUT BEAUTIFUL ...and sold within days.
I knew I had a passion but started to realize people actually love this stuff.
I then was asked by a friend to make two large charcuterie boards for his charcuterie catering start-up venture and I took on the project without thinking.
That is when I started experimenting with different woods and different handle styles. When you merge the two together you really get a work of art. After making hundreds of them I found a style that is practical as well as beautiful.
